Postpartum Mood Disorders (PPMD)

As the Olympia Doula Care site develops I’ll add much more information about Postpartum Mood Disorders (PPMD).

PPMDs occur in 10-20% of mothers and in 10% of fathers. Adoptive parents experience it, too. And all parents experience the ups and downs of adjustment after baby arrives. These adjustments can be really challenging. You are not alone. You are not crazy. Help is available. You can get well.

Please know: If it’s a crisis to you, it’s a crisis. Ask for help, get support. If you need immediate support you can contact any of the following.

1) The Crisis Clinic – help is available 24 hours a day: 360-586-2800

2) Postpartum Support International Warm Line: 1-888-404-7763 (PPMD) NOTE: This is not a crisis line but a peer support line. Calls will be returned within 24 hours (usually staffed weekdays).

3) Postpartum Support International Thurston County Support Meeting: Free, meets every Thursday 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Heart of Wellness in Tumwater. Facilitator: Tammy Putvin 360-349-2346.

You can learn more about Postpartum Mood Disorders at Postpartum Progress and at Postpartum Support International.
